and now for something completely different.

This is the result of a project from the SECOND SQUARE TO NONE team.

Another TED video. Not so much on Innovation but pretty relevant
I like this because in innovation people can beat themselves up about novelty and being a thought leader and being original.

This video reminds us of a couple of important things:

  • Leaders without followers are just nuts
  • Leaders should welcome followers as equals
  • Move quick to be in the InCrowd not just in the crowd
  • Just because you think you can dance doesn’t mean you can

  • don’t care so much about what the current wisdom is and have fun

Innovation: Newspaper from Twitter

Here is a cool innovation.
Using the site www.paper.li you can create an newspaper out of links or hashtags that people have shared on twitter.

say I am interested in innovation, I can get a newspaper style page by using the hashtag #innovation get find this the #innovation Daily

and I can set it to alert me when it is updated.

The #ireland Daily is also there.

Are you doing the work you were born to do?

It is a question that we all face from time to time. Is this where I should be? I am doing the stuff I was meant to do?
If that is where you are now check out Nick Williams and his thoughts on building an inspired business.

If you are in London on the 12th August 2010, Nick Williams will be speaking live at the Inspired Entrepreneurs’ Club at an evening called To Build Your Inspired Business – Start With ‘Why?’.

Even if you can’t make the seminar (and get the book free) you might want to check out the trial membership. Actually the trial membership gets you the seminar for £1 so you should start there. Small Steps :)

In the thought-provoking seminar, Nick Williams will share key insights about the importance of purpose in starting and running your own business. Today one of the most important components of your success in business is this: knowing and being clear about why you are doing what you do. People want to know your greater purpose – beyond the money – how you serve and what you stand for. Your purpose is your opportunity to engage and inspire people, so they’ll be attracted to you and what you do. But purpose cannot be manufactured and manipulated, it must flow from your own deepest being. In this not-to-be-missed event, Nick Williams will explain how you, as an Inspired Entrepreneur, are uniquely positioned to capitalize on the power of purpose. Plus, every attendee gets a FREE (and personally signed) copy of Nick’s best selling book – The Work We Were Born to Do – to take away! Price is £20.00, or  just £1 when you grab a trial membership to the Inspired Entrepreneurs’ Club!

Podcast link: Startup

You probably have seen the announcement by Taoiseach Brian Cowen on the new Technology Fund. There has been a lot of discussion on whether or not we would get a whole bunch of startups.

Here is a link to an interesting podcast in which Professor Kevin Shakesheff from the University of Nottingham talks about his involvement in the award winning spin out company Regentec.

It is less than 9mins and worth a listen.

Check in out here.

Too much information

I had the twittertools plugin running over the last couple of days. The innovationIRL tweets although kinda interesting really make the blog look very untidy. I have switched it off but after a bit of thought have decided to keep the posts. It is better to be able to accept mistakes. That’s how we learn
